What is Ergonomics?

Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific
discipline concerned with the understanding of the
interactions among humans and other elements of a
system, and the profession that applies theory,
principles, data, and methods to design in order to
optimize human well-being and overall system
performance.

Office ergonomics has become an important factor in
the development of workplace injuries as there has
been a shift in the work being performed. Historically,
occupations were more physically demanding. With the
shift to automation, occupations have become more
sedentary with robots more likely to complete
physically demanding jobs.
