Rehabilitation Community of Practice meeting

Rehabilitation Community of Practice meeting

Thank you to the Ontario Kinesiology Association
and John Gray
for the invitation to speak at the Rehabilitation Community of Practice meeting this week.

What stood out most to me was how broad the discussion became once people started sharing real clinical and business experiences from across the profession.

We discussed Functional Capacity Evaluations for Veterans Affairs clients, using functional testing to support seniors aging in place, and how clinics are incorporating functional measurement equipment into treatment programs to objectively track outcomes over time.

The conversation also expanded into the business and medico-legal side of functional testing. We talked about how FCEs can be used as a dispute resolution tool in complex legal situations, but also how the exact same principles can be applied proactively to support safe return-to-work planning with employers.

One of the biggest takeaways for me was seeing how many different ways Kinesiologists are already using functional assessment skills beyond the traditional insurance referral model.

There was a very open and practical discussion throughout the session, and I appreciated everyone who contributed questions, case examples, and different perspectives from practice.

Thanks again to the OKA team and everyone who attended the Zoom session. I enjoyed the discussion and the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing conversation around functional assessment and the future role of Kinesiologists in rehabilitation and occupational health.
